Why Facebook Ads Are Still the Best Marketing Strategy for Local Studios

There’s never been a better time to run a local studio.

And there’s never been a better way to market one than right now—using Facebook (okay, technically Meta) ads.

Seriously.

If you’re a local studio owner—dance, martial arts, fitness, whatever—and you’re not tapping into Meta ads yet, you’re sleeping on what might be the best advertising strategy for local businesses in our lifetime.

Yeah, I said it: opportunity of a generation.

Here’s why:

1. Creepy Good Targeting (in the Best Way)

Back in the day, we were out here paying for ads in the Yellow Pages and praying.
Paying for distribution that hit everybody—even the folks who didn’t care at all about what we were offering.

Now? You can run an ad and put it only in front of parents with kids aged 3–10 who live in your area and are already looking for dance classes.
Or adults interested in yoga.
Or folks who’ve visited your website in the last 30 days but didn’t fill out the form.

We don’t need to guess anymore. We can get creepy-specific with our targeting… and that’s awesome.

Meta, who owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp knows exactly who to show your ads to.

This is exactly how to advertise a dance or fitness studio to people who are most likely to say yes.

2. Test New Class Offerings Like We’ve Never Had Before

I used to teach that in order to know if a marketing strategy worked, you needed to commit at least 90 days to it.

Not anymore.

You can now spend $10 a day for 7 days on Facebook ads and have the answer to “Do people want to take this class” or not.

Want to test an adult intro class? Cool.

Thinking about launching a new acro program? Great.

Before you build out the schedule, the teacher, the landing page—just go run an ad and see if anyone responds.

You’re not locked into anything long-term.

You can adjust daily.

That kind of control is unheard of. In the best way.

3. The Meta Pixel Is Your Secret Weapon

Let me nerd out for a second—this is important.
The Meta Pixel (used to be called the Facebook Pixel) is this tiny piece of code you add to your website.

And here’s what it does:

It tracks who’s landing on your site, who’s clicking around, who’s filling out your forms, and who’s actually becoming a student.

Then Meta goes, “Cool. These are the types of people we’re looking for.”
And then it starts optimizing your ads to show to more people just like them.

That’s next-level audience targeting, and it only gets better over time.

It’s like training a robot assistant to go find your perfect students.

4. Crack the Cold Market = Win the Game

If you’re only marketing to your current families or through word-of-mouth, you may be missing out on a lot of students and profit.

The studios that are doing well right now have figured out how to crack the cold market—people who don’t know you, don’t owe you anything, and have no emotional connection to your studio (yet).

Meta ads are one of the best cold traffic techniques I’ve ever seen.

And once cold traffic starts converting, you’re not just growing—you’re scaling.

Now, sure, you’ll need to nurture some folks. Not everyone signs up on Day 1.

But when you’re connecting Facebook (Meta) ads with a follow up system (we call it the Prospect Pipeline), that’s where the magic happens.

When a prospects responds to the contact form on our studio’s website, they are immediately gets added to the first step of our Prospect Pipeline within the Compete Studio software.

From there, our staff knows to reach out to the prospect right away with a phone call.

After that, they are frequently contacted via texts, emails, and additional phone calls to make sure no one is falling through the cracks.

5. It’s Not Always Easy. But It’s Totally Worth It.

Running Meta ads can feel like a rollercoaster.
There are weird ups and downs. Sometimes your click-through rate drops out of nowhere. Other times, you launch a campaign and it crushes.

But guess what?
No other affordable marketing for small businesses lets you:

  • Test ideas fast
  • Target the right people
  • Track behavior in real time
  • And scale a local studio with this much control

And when you combine your ads with other strategies—email, open houses, referrals, buddy days—you create that magic moment where people say:

“I see your studio everywhere.”

That’s what we’re after.
